Gun Control & Wisdom

I've noticed that there has been a lot said about gun control in the last couple weeks.  I believe in the 2nd amendment and the right to keep and bear arms, to protect ourselves from others, and more importantly our government. That being said, I do have a few thoughts since reading my Bible this morning. (KJV)

Ecclesiastes 9:14-18 There was a little city, and few men within it; and there came a great king against it, and besieged it, and built great bulwarks against it:

15 Now there was found in it a poor wise man, and he by his wisdom delivered the city; yet no man remembered that same poor man.

16 Then said I, Wisdom is better than strength: nevertheless the poor man's wisdom is despised, and his words are not heard.

17 The words of wise men are heard in quiet more than the cry of him that ruleth among fools.

18 Wisdom is better than weapons of war: but one sinner destroyeth much
good. (emphasis mine)

So what does this mean? Should we not have any weapons of war? No! Not at all. It is simply saying wisdom is better.  Not that we need only wisdom. So, what's my point? Let us remember, God's wisdom is not man's wisdom. God's wisdom changes hearts, it changes lives, and it saves! Let us be saying as much or more about God's wisdom in sending Jesus to save man from sin, death, and the devil, as we are about gun control. (I'm talking to myself here as much as anyone else!)

If we keep our guns, we may live a more peaceable life for a while, but look around. Even if we do keep our guns, we still have gay marriage, abortion, and recreational drugs. Plus, a score of other inappropriate behavior in our midst. What we really need is God's Word to penetrate our hearts, the Holy Ghost to reign there, and Jesus to be praised as Lord and King.

There are 222 verses with the word wisdom in the KJV Bible. Now THAT would be a good word study! But here is just a few to get us started...

Deuteronomy 4:5 Behold, I have taught you statutes and judgments, even as the LORD my God commanded me, that ye should do so in the land whither ye go to possess it.
6 Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people.
7 For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?
8 And what nation is there so great, that hath statutes and judgments so righteous as all this law, which I set before you this day?
9 Only take heed to thyself, and keep thy soul diligently, lest thou forget the things which thine eyes have seen, and lest they depart from thy heart all the days of thy life: but teach them thy sons, and thy sons' sons; (emphasis mine)

Oh, wow! This really says a lot! It brings homeschooling into my thoughts too. And let us remember God's wisdom is not man's wisdom.

1 Corinthians 1:19  For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent.
20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

1 Corinthians 1:25 Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.
1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: (emphasis mine)

So let us study to be wise in the Lord and share with others the wonderful works of God!

Proverbs 2:6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.
Proverbs 4:7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
