Proverbs 31:10

"Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies."

Virtuous, a. Morally good; acting in conformity to the moral law; practicing the moral duties, and abstaining from vice.
Chaste; applied to women.

Chaste, a. Pure from all unlawful commerce of sexes. True to the marriage bed.

So our desire should be that we would lead a moral life and especially that we would be pure sexually. I'd say this includes dressing modestly.

Price, n. The sum or amount of money at which a thing is valued.

Here I'd like to take minute to consider the old custom of the "bride's price" when the father of the bride set a price for his daughter and the Groom had to pay that price. We recently heard a excellent sermon where this was discussed. He said that, figuratively speaking, God sat down with Jesus and they decided what the price of Jesus' bride would be. (That's us!) As we know the price was the life blood of a pure, righteous man. (That's Jesus!) So God esteemed us so highly that he set a VERY high price to be paid, and Jesus loved us SO much that he paid the price and we became his espoused bride! Now we are awaiting that glorious day when Jesus will come for us and seal our marriage to him FOREVER in heaven above!

 Ruby, n. A precious stone.
The ruby is next in hardness and value to the diamond, and highly esteemed in jewelry.

I just read a book that pointed out that to get a ruby you must know where to look. They are not common and you can't just happen across one.

We see a beautiful picture of Christ here, but we can also see the value of a virtuous woman to her husband. I'm pretty sure no common man has the money to pay a price "far above rubies"! And to think we have that value when Christ is our righteousness and we are trusting in him for our purity! What a beautiful calling!

"A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones." Proverbs 12:4
