Kenyon's pregnancy began following his brother's birth by 11 months. I wasn't quite ready to be pregnant when I realized I was feeling slightly sick. I had been having quite the time learning how to be a mom. My first, Colten, was severely colic. My second, Emily, was so good, but was fairly close in age to Colten. Then I had a hard miscarriage, followed by my third, Dustin. His pregnancy was hard(we had our first son diagnosed with diabetes insipidus during his pregnancy), and caring for three small children when he was crabby/colic was very over-whelming. So by the time I was pregnant for Kenyon I was stressed out emotionally, physically, and spiritually.
In the beginning of Kenyon's pregnancy, what stands out the most, is that I had severe low blood sugar(self diagnosed). I was weak, my heart pounded, I was dizzy and off-balance, I was constantly hungry especially for pastas, and even when I ate I didn't get any more energy. (I also gained 10 pounds in the first month! NOT normal for me. I usually lost in the beginning) I felt so exhausted that when I stood at the counter to make lunch or supper I would lay the upper part of my body on the counter. I prayed hard, and by the time I was 5 months along or so, I felt better than I had in a couple years! I remember I was quite comfortable (My previous pregnancy had been extremely uncomfortable from about 7 months on), but feared labor and especially delivery. I was drinking raspberry leaf tea because I heard it would help labor and delivery. My cycle had been messed up when I got pregnant so my due date was uncertain. My period date showed I was due January 15th, 2002, but the ultrasound date put me at about the 27th. I was so anxious to have him that we even celebrated Christmas in NOVEMBER!! I guess I thought if we hurried up Christmas we could hurry up the birth. Not so! I didn't go into labor with him until early morning(2 am) on January 25th. Labor started quickly and scared me pretty good. I was having contractions every 2 min.(I thought drinking the raspberry leaf tea must have REALLY worked and I was about to deliver right there where I stood!) But I prayed hard and God must have heard because my contractions went to 5 min apart. Carson got my sister from a min. down the road and we were off to the hospital. Labor was quite mild even when I was dilated to 7cm, but when the doctor came in to break my water, I chickened out and got an epidural. I don't really remember the delivery. I do know that he was born at about 7:30am (7:39 to be exact), after about 5 1/2 hours of labor. I waited a little while to call my sister to let the kids know we had him because I didn't know if they'd be up. We named him Kenyon Allyn after my brother and uncle. He was my smallest boy at 7lbs. 9oz. and 21in. long. We went home later that same day and began our "new" life with 4 small children.
I remember that day well! Joey & I had just started officially "dating" the night before. And I remember Joey couldn't believe you came home from the hospital the same day! :)
