Jamen was my first baby after my mom's death. It was different for me in many ways. I had a miscarriage previous to getting pregnant with him. I also waited to get pregnant for a long time before the miscarriage, and for 6 months after before I was pregnant again. I went hunting with (husband)Carson and my dad for the first time ever at Mom and Dad's ranch AND my dad called in his first turkey AND Carson shot his first turkey! Amazing! I prayed the whole hunt and God answered so wonderfully! Then came the morning sickness...ugh! Thankfully I endured better than the previous 5 because I had so much help and experience.
Meanwhile, my sister, Missy decided to use a midwife for her pregnancy and deliver her baby at home. Wow! I was quite astonished with the idea, but after living through my mom's fight with cancer and her death, I thought, why not? So, after much prayer and thought, weighing my choices first one way and then the other, we chose to use the same midwife and to deliver at home also. I was due January 18, 2009. On my due date we took our kids to the zoo because Carson promised them we'd go soon. I enjoyed the day as much as you can when you're due, and was more comfortable than the previous several days. We slept pretty good that night and around 7am on January 19th, I started having mild contractions, but since it wasn't anything new for this pregnancy, I ignored them. An hour or so later I realized it may be labor so I called the midwife. Labor progressed nicely and was bearable and quite mild until about an hour before delivery. Around 1:45pm I went upstairs, where the birthing tub was set-up. When my midwife checked my dilation, I was 7cm. So I got in the tub. Several minutes and several contractions later, I went into transition and my water broke. I knew delivery was close. The midwife said to push, after about 20 min of pushing, Baby's head was delivered. Not long after, I stood to deliver his body. So at 2:45pm, after 7 3/4 hours of labor, Jamen Edwin was born. He was my 2nd biggest baby, but even still, it was one of my best labors and deliveries. He was beautiful! And for the record, he was 8 lbs. 10 oz. and 21 1/2 in. long.
Jamen sure has been a blessing in all our lives! He is a keeper:)
