How much then is a man better than a sheep? Wherefore it is lawful to do well on Sabbath days. Matthew 12:12
That is my Bible verse today on my daily calendar. I have long understood that we are allowed to do the work which is necessary on Sunday, our Sabbath, but today as I read this verse I saw it as the spiritual Sabbath. As it says in Hebrews 4:4,9 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works. 9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
So is it lawful to do good even though we are not under the law, but under grace? Even though it will not gain us eternity? Yes! It is right and good to do unto others as we would have them do unto us despite we will not gain eternity for our good works. Don't let others tell you that you are working for your salvation just because you have "good works" and love for others. Modesty, kindness, patience, grace, sobriety, meekness, submissiveness(especially to ones own husband) & forgiveness are just a few of the good works I'm thinking of here.
God is so good & wise to have thought of such a thing! He cares for ALL our needs!
Yes! Truth! Amen!
ReplyDeleteAmen! :)
ReplyDeleteScripture comes to mind here, but I can't quite place it. Something about us not having grace if we don't do good works. I'm not saying to go out and do good works to prove you are under grace , but that we should seek our hearts as David did when he said ," Search my heart oh God..." By their fruits you shall know them, etc....No, works don't get us to heaven , but they do come to a humble and contrite heart, which is according to scripture... where God dwells. Paraphrasing here. :D
ReplyDeleteThis is what I have found about the contrite heart...Isaiah 57:15 Thus saith the high and lofty one that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones.
ReplyDeleteI was in no way saying that we of ourselves are able to do good. It is God in us working that love...(the fruits of the Spirit...)
Yes, I do agree that when Christ dwells in our heart we will have good works.(and this wasn't the first I knew this, just the first I saw it this way) I was more specifically thinking of those who actually speak against doing what is right because we are not under the law, but grace...as it says, should we sin that grace may abound? God forbid... It seems they want to place you under condemnation for doing what is right by throwing out the term "lawbound"
DeleteI understand Mindy and agree...
